June 2026

Been a while since I've written.  There are some new things to say, so I'm making a new recording, which will hopefully be done in a few months.  The personal is political and this time around, some of the writing leans more heavily in that direction, but I am never far from the inner spaces of the heart and hopefully this connects with yours.

One night, a little while ago, Sweet Cicely played one of my new songs.  A few days later, someone contacted my asking for the lyrics.  He said the song spoke to him.  Here you go random stranger-  a song about broken down cars and busted hearts.  Sometimes all we can do is sing about it.

Two Dollars from Totaled (c.malcolm/north country mama publishing copyright 2026)

I'm about two dollars from totaled,

ain't running so good.

Two dollars from totaled,

bat shit under the hood.

Your love, was like sugar in my tank,

and I'm broke down on the road,

halfway down the bank.

I'm about forty miles from home.

Can't find my way back.

I'm forty miles from home,

and I'm way off the track.

Lost my rider back on the state line

and he stole my only map,

broke this heart of mine.

I'm looking for a friend I used to know.

He's left these parts or so I'm told.

I'm stuck right here ain't going nowhere.

This engine's blown, the tires are bare.

Can't you see sun is going down,

hear the nightengales call.

Sun is going down,

out on this lonesome road.

Ain't got nothing worth a damn to save

and the sky is growing dark,

the night is on it's way.
